Springtime 04/01/2011
Hullo Friends! Thanks for checking back in with me. I am busy working—teaching dance in my home studio and also subbing for Frederique when she is off being a world-traveling, dancing goddess. This year so far has been pretty quiet as far as performances go, but that makes sense because that really is not where my focus is right now. Oh, except for last night of course. I danced at a drag queen show and I was so nervous! What’s funny is that I wasn’t nervous about being there, I was nervous about disappointing the drag queens. I was plagued with self-doubt: “Do they really want to see a belly dancer? Will they be bored?” As it turns out, they loved me and I had a great time. My next performance will be at the Vampire Ball in April. I will post a flyer for that show soon. I am currently spending a lot of time researching and gathering information for a dance manual that I hope to publish sometime in the future. I must say, being an academic librarian has definitely perfected my research skills! I love the process of gathering information, especially if the topic is my deep passion in life. Sometimes I feel the need to hurry up and write the damn thing, but then I stop and take a breath (I am learning how to do that these days). I think about producing quality content that has profound meaning for me; in fact it is my legacy and I hope to share it with dancers all over the world. I am also working on a brand new project that I hope will happen this summer!! I created a stretching workshop designed exclusively for belly dancers. Everyone who shows up gets a FREE gift (awesome poster) designed by me. Weeeeee! So far, I have tried many of the exercises on my private students and they absolutely love them. Dancers, I will make you fall in love with stretching or I will die trying. Stay tuned for more details. Last but certainly not least, I signed up for the one and only continuing education I will take this year. Due to financial restraints, I can’t really take any dance classes (grrrrrr!) on a regular basis and I really want to dive into my technique! I spend a lot of my time as a dancer and teacher focusing on conditioning and I need to keep the balance between the two. So, I will spend a week with the lovely Rachel Brice in PDX in October. I will dance my ass off, I will get certified in her program, and I will be super crazy stoked. Here is Rachel in her natural habitat. So perdy. Enjoy the weather and much love to you all… CommentsLeave a Reply |
