This will be such a fun show. All these lovely ladies I get to dance with are so talented. Lucky me! Key Ink 11/13/2010
Hullo again! Here is a collection of photos showing the evolution of my latest tattoo. The original key is an old piece of junk jewelry that I found at a flea market when I was 10 years old. My dad bought it for me and it holds a very special place in my heart. This Samhain I chose to get this tattoo to honor him. Yesterday I finished with the color. Aaaaand voila! SHADOWDANCE 2010 and other news 11/05/2010
Greetings! November is quite a crazy busy month for me! Let's see...well, first off we have SHADOWDANCE. I am really excited about this show! The venue is the Oakland Metro, which is rad because I have already danced on that stage twice and feel quite comfortable there. I will say this: the piece I am performing is the most personal dance I have ever choreographed. It comes straight from the center of my heart. November 22nd I have another show at the fabulous Hubba Hubba Revue at The Uptown. I love this gig. Jim and pals are the coolest, most laid back people to work with, ever. November 28th I am privileged to dance with Ariellah and Nayun of Deshret Dance Company in Berkeley. I will perform a solo along with many other uniquely amazing dancers. Also, for the month of November, the lovely Frederique is on tour in Europe and she asked me to sub for her. YAY! I am subbing her on-going beginning and advanced ATS belly dance classes at Temescal Arts Center on Thursday nights. The advanced class is currently closed to the public, but the beginning class is open to everybody so come on down! Details here. I recently had a private lesson with Fred, and it was definitely worth it, as always. I am so happy and grateful to be subbing her class. Last but not least, my new flyers are here! They are super fantastic. In case you are wondering, the woman posing goth-like on the front of the flyer is Ruth St. Denis, a dancing hero of mine. For more gorgeous, awe-inspiring pictures of her, go here. The season is fall and my days are filled with downloading electronic music from obscure British djs, teaching private lessons in the morning, and working at the library in the afternoon. Such is my life. It is good. p.s. Dancers: if you would like beautiful flyers at a very reasonable price, talk to my friend Mikey. He will hook you up. Check out his website. Club 6 06/20/2010
Here I am with my bellydance teacher and dear friend, Freyja. We both danced great sets. It was a good night. A text from DJ Amar regarding TF Afterparty 05/19/2010
Martin, my partner, dj dragonfly said "my favorite piece was that...umm...blackhoodygrrl girl." If I were a cupcake, I would look like this. Tribal Fest Afterparty 05/03/2010

This was me a few weeks ago, blissfully ignorant of the hurricane that was about to come and demolish my life (oh my, us goths are so dramatic sometimes!). Alas, it is true folks. I have endured some personal loss recently and am not my usual dancing self. However, hurricanes have come and gone in my life before, but this time I have more shiny tools in my toolbox!! I am older and wiser and have the ability to learn from my mistakes. Although it is always comforting and familiar, I will not dwell in the darkness this time. I WILL YIELD TO THE PRESENT. Here’s to looking at every day as a new opportunity! In the meantime… History 04/14/2010
Springtime 04/06/2010
April is here and it is gorgeous outside! I love walking in the cemetery by my house in the springtime. This month, I am busy working on my Essentrics certification, teaching lessons and creating choreo for upcoming stuff. But first, I will be performing here on Sunday, April 11th. All proceeds go to benefit the Women’s Daytime Drop-in Center of Berkeley which is a place where homeless women and children can go and get a meal and a place to sleep. I really could not pass up dancing for such a good cause. And of course, Ashkenaz is such a historical venue (I was recently reading an article about Jamila Salimpour teaching there in the 60’s and 70’s). |
