Please enjoy a snippet from my very first performance of 2017! YAAAAY! Not the best quality video, but a nice glimpse into what I am doing these days. This performance was part of an artists collective in Marin County and I'm very proud to be a participant. I am thrilled to be dancing (finally) with a vintage piece of assuit and I absolutely LOVE how it looks on stage and on camera. Although I do a tiny bit o' ballet in this piece, I find that slow, slinky tribal belly dance moves work quite well with The Dying Swan. I don't think I will ever get tired of this music.
This weekend I got to do two extraordinary things: see an epic concert and perform on stage. These two things are rare treasures and I'm so thrilled that they both happened in one weekend. I'm still glowing! Click HERE for more performance pics.
p.s. Opeth is an amazing band. Buy their new album "Sorceress"--'tis awesome.
A new performance video! I recently stumbled upon this while going through my Dropbox files. Apparently I never posted it, so I am now. I am proud of this performance because I really took my time and felt the music in my bones. Apologies for the annoying green line in the video--still getting the hang of video editing. Enjoy!
I LOVE this picture because it looks like I'm levitating! Well, all these "throwback thursday" pictures on Instagram has put me in a nostalgic mood. I decided to publish all the pictures from my one and only time performing at Tribal Fest. I really had fun on stage and the photographer got some great shots of my snarky expressions. I knew I was only going to do it once so I decided to make it memorable.
I think belly dancing to Pantera is memorable.

Greetings! Back from Seattle with a brand new video! I adore Seattle and I was a bit sad that my trip this time was so short. The weather was perfect and I got to see North Seattle for the first time. The San Francisco Bay Area culture is not what it used to be. In my opinion, the tech influence has completely ruined the vibe. I look forward to a day in the near future when I will call Seattle my true home.
Here's a picture of me, just killing time in the afternoon before my performance. I love cemeteries.
I am totally serving Diana Ross and the Supremes realness in this picture. Stop! In the name of love! YAAASSS!
I hope everyone is healthy and happy. Last spring I went down to Los Angeles for an amazing photo shoot and now the pictures are ready for your viewing pleasure. SO many new pics! Check them out here. Also, I just got the confirmation: I will be performing this year at Waking Persephone! I am so excited! Any excuse to visit Seattle, which is definitely my home away from home. September will be spent fleshing out performance choreography and tons of practice. Practice practice practice.
Hullo there! This piece was quite special because I have never danced in an all white costume. Ever. Black is actually my happy color, and I wear it every day, on stage and off. But last night's performance was an offering--a tribute to one of my greatest dancing idols: Maya Plisetskaya. The great Russian prima ballerina passed away on May 2, 2015 and my heart has been filled with sadness ever since. She was truly magnificent and truly an inspiration for my dance. For more information about her, click HERE and HERE.
I wear white to show my respect for one of the greatest dancers of the 20th century. Thank you, Madame, for a lifetime of inspiration and magic.
Hola! The month of May is super fantastic in the world of Blackhoodygrrl. First, my wedding anniversary (squeee!) and second, DIVAfest!! I am thrilled and excited and super grateful. DIVAfest is a community of artists and arts lovers working to raise visibility and increase opportunity for women in creative fields. We strive to engage diverse artists and audiences with eclectic programing in theatre, dance, burlesque, music, visual art, crafts, and symposia inspired by women. We empower female artists to claim agency in their own work, to project and amplify their voices into national dialogue, and to inhabit a future of liberty, equality, and sorority.
Greetings! This weekend has been pretty special for me. Me and my dance colleague, Lisa Hyde, strutted our stuff in a belly dance competition and ended up winning 1st place! I could not be more thrilled. I love working with Lisa because she is so professional and wonderful, and of course I love performing on the stage. But the real thrill comes from watching my choreography win something...anything! I am very grateful for this experience.
...Mr. Fosse...this one's for you.
This is the place where I track future performances and announce updates in the Blackhoodygrrl world. There is also bits of poetry, musings and eye candy, always keeping with the theme of Sacred Dance.
