I am really digging what Seane is saying in this little viddy. Although my yoga practice differs greatly from hers (when she talks about prayer and devotion that usually refers to bhakti yoga, whereas I tend to walk the intellectual path and would say I practice a version of jnana yoga), I have truly gained a glimmer of wisdom from her words.

The days fly by and I have nothing but dancing on the brain. I must always focus on the dance. Even if other aspects of my life seem to be crumbling, I must always focus on the dance. Finances are stressing me out, but I seem to be attracting new students left and right, so hopefully I will be able to climb out of the debt abyss. All it takes is a slight change of attitude and a general resignation to accept whatever happens. Thank you, O Universe, for these wonderful new students! I am teaching so much these days that I have left very little room in my weekly schedule for my own dancing time! This is a no-no and must be corrected. I am aware that if I spread my energy too thin, I may have a burnout. Therefore, I have decided that Thursday mornings are all for ME ME ME. I have TONS of new choreography on the brain and need to hash it out and get these moves into my muscle memory because they are just too cute. I’ve been choreographing in my sleep again. Mostly to songs by Tom Waits. I know, right? AWESOME. Website news: I have rearranged the “about the artist” page and added some new writing. I created an artist’s statement which breaks down my process as a dancer, and I am currently working on an essay about “dark fusion” which should be up and running soon. Other news: Hubba Hubba Revue performance this month! Two sets and one of them I’m dancing to METAL! January 25th at the Uptown in Oakland: hope to see you there! Next month I am thrilled to be performing in Frederique’s student show (yippee!), and I have been asked by the Pagan Alliance to perform a ritual dance at the annual Pagan Festival this May in Berkeley. I attend the festival every year but this is the first time I will be performing and I am so excited. Also in May, I will be blowing minds with my furious hips at the Tribal Fest afterparty. WOOT! A very talented photographer and artist painted me and my friend Dusty at the Renaissance Faire this year. I am ridiculously flattered. Please check out more of her work here. Here is me and Dusty in real life. And now my friends, I leave you with this gem of wisdom by an author I truly respect. Listen with open ears! Take care, and keep dancing :) |
