This picture is a visual representation of my goals for the new year. I only have one goal, really. I never make resolutions because I feel they are silly, but my GOAL is to remain on my minimalist journey. So far, so good.
I've identified as a minimalist since the early 2000's when I got rid of my 3,000 volumes book collection. That was my first step and it was incredibly liberating. Over the years, I've slowly decluttered and reshaped my perspective on consumerism and capitalism and various other lofty ideas. Recently I've been so happy to discover that minimalism is now a trend! There are tons of videos on Youtube, multiple talks on TED.com and many awesome and inspiring websites. I am especially inspired by the minimalist youtubers (is that a word? oh well, it is now).
I now have a morning routine that goes as follows:
-I wake up and first things first: I drink a huge glass of tepid water OR lemon water, then I make my morning coffee (blue bottle). I used to have on average 2-3 cups of coffee in the morning. Now I have one. One and done.
Minimalism spills over into every corner and facet of my life. For instance, I started out with the goal of more space in my living room to dance, and now I have better eating habits/choices because of minimalism! When I go out to restaurants I allow myself to have whatever I want, but at home I simply don't buy meat anymore. All my meals at home are vegetarian. This is a huge step for me and I feel so much better in body, mind, and spirit. I am greatly inspired by Jenny Mustard, a vegan minimalist who makes beautiful and creative videos. I watch her almost every morning with my one, precious cup of coffee. Sometimes I watch certain videos over and over again, just to keep the minimalist lifestyle fresh in my mind. Honestly, watching the videos in the morning has allowed me to make better choices throughout the day.
