I was working hard in the studio and my partner in crime snapped some shots of me. My tribal ballet workshop was well received and I am feeling gratitude and happiness wash all over me, like the ocean washes the sand. Springtime is just beginning, and I'm hoping this will be the year I make a dreamy, fantasy filled dance video, in a special spot in San Francisco. And if I really get my butt in gear, mayhaps I will send it in to TDFF or SFDFF. Now that my workshop is over, this will be my next big dance/art project!

Ahh, the great Tamara Karsavina and the ethereal Dame Margot Fonteyn. I've lived with this picture since I was a little girl--it speaks volumes to me. I just had to re-create it with my dancing pal, Jericha. The older generation sharing the knowledge with the up and coming generation. Such a moment of intimacy and bonding in the dance studio.
More class details (time, date, place, price) to come in the next few weeks. Enjoy the change of season!
So far, this summer has been fantastic! I found a new studio where I can practice and teach, and I'm creating new dances based on my original faery tales (when I'm not a librarian or a belly dancer, I'm a writer). These pictures are from the latest email newsletter from Melodia Designs. She is FABULOUS and I've been wearing her stuff for years. She was kind enough to publish my pictures-truly an honor!!
Hola! The month of May is super fantastic in the world of Blackhoodygrrl. First, my wedding anniversary (squeee!) and second, DIVAfest!! I am thrilled and excited and super grateful. DIVAfest is a community of artists and arts lovers working to raise visibility and increase opportunity for women in creative fields. We strive to engage diverse artists and audiences with eclectic programing in theatre, dance, burlesque, music, visual art, crafts, and symposia inspired by women. We empower female artists to claim agency in their own work, to project and amplify their voices into national dialogue, and to inhabit a future of liberty, equality, and sorority.
I will be performing on May 10th. Please purchase tickets HERE. I am so pleased and proud to be among these lovely ladies. I especially love the picture of Rachel Brice because that was the very first Sequoia picture I ever saw! I instantly fell in love with her style and eye for color. Flash forward many years later, and I finally booked a shoot with her (I'm next to Rachel on the left).
For more information on Sequoia's exquisite coffee table book, click HERE. When you make a wish and send it out into the universe, sometimes it comes true! A very generous holiday elf sent me this in the mail yesterday. She heard my cries for pumpkin spice lattes allllllllll the way down in Southern California. Yay! How awesome is that? Okay, enough talk, I'm off to Peet's...
Winter is here and I am living in a constant state of gratitude: for my life and for who I am as a person, woman, dancer. It is AMAZING how much better every day life can be when you choose to be grateful for everything you have. My list goes on forever into the sunset, but right at this moment I will share with you what I most grateful for:
Happy Holidays love, Blackhoodygrrl |
