A little inspiration for all my lovely dancing brothers and sisters out there. Keep going, keep breathing, keep dancing!
Hullo there! This piece was quite special because I have never danced in an all white costume. Ever. Black is actually my happy color, and I wear it every day, on stage and off. But last night's performance was an offering--a tribute to one of my greatest dancing idols: Maya Plisetskaya. The great Russian prima ballerina passed away on May 2, 2015 and my heart has been filled with sadness ever since. She was truly magnificent and truly an inspiration for my dance. For more information about her, click HERE and HERE.
I wear white to show my respect for one of the greatest dancers of the 20th century. Thank you, Madame, for a lifetime of inspiration and magic. Ahh, the great Tamara Karsavina and the ethereal Dame Margot Fonteyn. I've lived with this picture since I was a little girl--it speaks volumes to me. I just had to re-create it with my dancing pal, Jericha. The older generation sharing the knowledge with the up and coming generation. Such a moment of intimacy and bonding in the dance studio.
This little lady sure does inspire me. Her caption for this post read: Always a student, only in death are we a master. #Gagallet I love ballet.
I will tell you guys a short, personal story. When I was younger I was a VERY SERIOUS PERSON. Everything I did, I did with intense seriousness. This was especially true for music. I am a musician (piano and guitar) and a SERIOUS music appreciator. Looking back now, I realize I used to be a musical snob. I listened to a wide variety of musical genres...but never pop music. Never ever ever top 40. I thought catchy, light hearted music was not serious music and therefore not worth my time. Many years later, something amazingly wonderful happened: Rupaul's Drag Race became a reality. Did I mention I'm obsessed with drag queens? Obsessed. I learned about Lady Gaga from the queens on the show and decided to give her a listen. It did not take long for me to turn into a full blown monster. A "monster" is a die hard fan of Lady Gaga and I have joined this tribe of crazies! There are too many reasons to list why I love her so much...but here's a few:
WERK MAMA!!!!!!!! So far, this summer has been fantastic! I found a new studio where I can practice and teach, and I'm creating new dances based on my original faery tales (when I'm not a librarian or a belly dancer, I'm a writer). These pictures are from the latest email newsletter from Melodia Designs. She is FABULOUS and I've been wearing her stuff for years. She was kind enough to publish my pictures-truly an honor!!
