Here I am on my way to a gig in Oakland, wearing my new Turkoman headdress. I LOVE it so much and I bought it here. I was thinking I might turn it into a belt, but now that it has arrived I do not want to change a thing! During the performance, I felt powerful and beautiful, like I had a magic talisman on my head.
Look for me in the beginning! This is the first of two videos we shot over Thanksgiving holiday. I am so inspired by Frenchy and the Punk and I can't wait to work with them again. Enjoy!
I am back from a crazy, whirlwind, exhausting but well worth it trip to the desert. PHEW! Over this Thanksgiving holiday, I participated in the making of two music videos for the awesome band Frenchy and the Punk. I wish I could show you pictures, but you'll just have to wait for the videos! To be honest, I am exhausted but also I feel blessed to have had such an experience. One of the sites was about an hour outside of Las Vegas, in the middle of nowhere Nevada. Spectacular scenery, with a brilliant early moon to boot. It was very inspiring to be out there, making art with other artists.
Come on out to The Uptown this Thursday night to see some awesome bands and performers...and me! Come see me! I really hope HUDU takes off and becomes a monthly party because honestly, this is the type of show I would go to see, even if I wasn't performing.
In other news, life is beautiful in our bungalow by the beach. We love living in Pacifica, especially our neighborhood. Goggies and kittehs run amok everywhere--it is definitely a town for animal lovers, which is awesome. And folks seem to get a kick outa me fire dancing in the street, especially the teenagers with the manic panic hair. Again, totally awesome.
Lots of dancing and breathing and practicing gratitude. It's all good.
Howdy! Here is a preview from my latest photoshoot. I am very excited, the fire shots came out looking fantastic! Right now I am hard at work preparing for a dance gig that is NOT belly dance. I have posted about it elsewhere, but for those of you who don't know, please check out the fabulous new musical revue: Her Rebel Highness. As far as belly dance, I have several gigs coming up in August, a new flyer in the works, and possible road gig coming this fall. Things are moving right along, and I am super grateful.
Yes, they did spell my name wrong but oh well. Last month I was a "stage kitten" at this gig and it was a BLAST! What is a stage kitten, you may ask? It's the person that runs and grabs all the clothes off the stage after the performer takes them off, provocatively. Ohhh yeah!
Tonite I will be dancing. Bubblegum dub. Some new choreography and some new perspectives. Hope to see you there!
That's me ina perdy red dress, made by my dear friend Minerva's Antennae. If you live in or near Oakland, please come to the show!
This is the place where I track future performances and announce updates in the Blackhoodygrrl world. There is also bits of poetry, musings and eye candy, always keeping with the theme of Sacred Dance.
