Stunningly beautiful TED talk. He talks about the serpentine movements of Khmer classical dance and I feel such a kinship with him! We as belly dancers really strive for that serpentine look and style. I am very humbled and inspired by this video. Enjoy!

Please enjoy a snippet from my very first performance of 2017! YAAAAY! Not the best quality video, but a nice glimpse into what I am doing these days. This performance was part of an artists collective in Marin County and I'm very proud to be a participant. I am thrilled to be dancing (finally) with a vintage piece of assuit and I absolutely LOVE how it looks on stage and on camera. Although I do a tiny bit o' ballet in this piece, I find that slow, slinky tribal belly dance moves work quite well with The Dying Swan. I don't think I will ever get tired of this music.
A new performance video! I recently stumbled upon this while going through my Dropbox files. Apparently I never posted it, so I am now. I am proud of this performance because I really took my time and felt the music in my bones. Apologies for the annoying green line in the video--still getting the hang of video editing. Enjoy!
Greetings! Back from Seattle with a brand new video! I adore Seattle and I was a bit sad that my trip this time was so short. The weather was perfect and I got to see North Seattle for the first time. The San Francisco Bay Area culture is not what it used to be. In my opinion, the tech influence has completely ruined the vibe. I look forward to a day in the near future when I will call Seattle my true home.
Here's a picture of me, just killing time in the afternoon before my performance. I love cemeteries. Hullo there! This piece was quite special because I have never danced in an all white costume. Ever. Black is actually my happy color, and I wear it every day, on stage and off. But last night's performance was an offering--a tribute to one of my greatest dancing idols: Maya Plisetskaya. The great Russian prima ballerina passed away on May 2, 2015 and my heart has been filled with sadness ever since. She was truly magnificent and truly an inspiration for my dance. For more information about her, click HERE and HERE.
I wear white to show my respect for one of the greatest dancers of the 20th century. Thank you, Madame, for a lifetime of inspiration and magic. Fosse Fedora! from Blackhoodygrrl on Vimeo. Greetings! This weekend has been pretty special for me. Me and my dance colleague, Lisa Hyde, strutted our stuff in a belly dance competition and ended up winning 1st place! I could not be more thrilled. I love working with Lisa because she is so professional and wonderful, and of course I love performing on the stage. But the real thrill comes from watching my choreography win something...anything! I am very grateful for this experience.
...Mr. Fosse...this one's for you. Hey hey! Here are some videos that better illustrate what Bellyfit is all about. The first is a testimonial from Gillian Cofsky, the master trainer who trained me. Isn't she adorable?? The second is a sample clip from a typical Bellyfit class. Look for me in the beginning! This is the first of two videos we shot over Thanksgiving holiday. I am so inspired by Frenchy and the Punk and I can't wait to work with them again. Enjoy!
