Greetings. Last weekend was hectic, but wonderful. Damask Boudoir was a HUGE success and I am just thrilled to know and work with so many talented people who were responsible for putting on such a kick ass show! Seriously, I have amazingly creative, artistic people as friends and I am so grateful. I worked really hard on my two pieces and I got amazing reactions from peeps, strangers, photographers, drag queens, and of course bellydance fans. On a personal note, this performance was emotionally difficult for me because my darling kitteh is in bad health. She is very old and very sick and she is not going to be around much longer. I have been so depressed about this: this cat is the best friend I have ever had. She is such a beautiful little soul; I cannot imagine my life without her. All these thoughts were racing through my head backstage as I am trying to warm up and put my game face on. I wanted to appear cool, collected and sexy on stage, but inside I wanted to cry for my cat REALLY BAD. So I put on my ipod and danced my songs in a corner all by myself. I did some breathwork and forced myself to smile. Thank Goddess for amazing friends, again! Dusty was my trusted gig companion/hair&makeup queen, and she made me look absolutely fabulous. My wonderful teacher, Freyja, also came backstage to boost my confidence. Having these two awesome women with me really helped my state of mind. As a result, I think the performances went really well.
Summer is over for me and that means back to work at the library. Yay! I heart my job. I danced a lot this summer, taught a lot of private lessons and ended with workshops galore at SF Mecca 2009, which I also attended last summer. I took a lot of notes and pictures this year, some of which I will post later. Zoe Jakes' class on musicality really stuck with me, as well as a few of Jill Parker's drills. Good stuff, very good stuff indeed.
In this moment, I am happy. I know it is only this moment, and the tides could change any second, but for now I am happy.
This is the place where I track future performances and announce updates in the Blackhoodygrrl world. There is also bits of poetry, musings and eye candy, always keeping with the theme of Sacred Dance.
